The 2009 Edinburgh Military Tattoo celebrates over 50 years of music and spectacle set against the world famous backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. From its early days, the Edinburgh Tattoo has

been an international favourite. Performers from 30 countries have presented here, and around 35 per cent of the 217,000+ audience each year are from overseas.

In 1947, after the devastation of war, the Edinburgh International

Festival was conceived to ‘provide a platform for the flowering of the human spirit’. Now earning its reputation as one of the world's greatest celebrations of the arts. The founders of the Festival believed that the Festival programmes should be of the highest possible artistic standard presented by the best artists in the world, that the Festival should enliven and enrich the cultural life of Europe, Britain and Scotland.
   

EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
17th - 28th JUNE 2009

Edinburgh is the UK’s leading Film Festival and has celebrated cinema in its infinite variety for over 60 uninterrupted years. Although no longer on in August, the EIFF is always bursting at the seams with the biggest and the best that the Film world has to offer.

 
   

EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL BOOK FESTIVAL
15th - 31st Aug 2009

The Edinburgh International Book Festival began in 1983 and is now a key event in the August Festival season, celebrated annually in Scotland's capital city. Biennial at first, the Book Festival became a yearly celebration in 1997.

The Book Festival has grown rapidly in size and scope to become the largest and most dynamic festival of its kind in the world. In its first year the Book Festival played host to no fewer than 30 'Meet the Author' events. Today, the Festival programmes over 650 events, which are enjoyed by people of all ages.
